Outdoor & Indoor / People & People
Located on the outskirts of Taipei, this site is originally a park for residents nearby. Therefore, the design aims to set the library as a community social space. Most libraries in Taiwan only provide indoor space for users. This often make readers feel blocked and exhausted. This project includes many outdoor spaces and a roof garden for the readers. As there are many residents who dance or practice Tai Chi in the park, many spots in are incorporated in the design for people to use the park even when it is raining.
Concept
1 Park & Library

2 Warm the Community

3 Nature Element

1 Park & Library / Usually, library is placed within the park. But what if the park is vertically within and around the library? I want to allow readers to walk out and relax, also creating social interactions.
2 Warm the Community / Although the surrounding buildings are mostly multifamily housing, they give off a cold, aloof sensation with their tile and concrete facade. This design sets to turn the site into a warm and social place.
3 Nature Element / By letting natural elements like the sun, wind and vegetation penetrate into the library, the indoor space becomes comfortable for reading and relaxation. The design aims to connect the inside and the outside of the library and allow people to experience a space filled with nature in Taipei.

System

1 Warmth System
How can people’s interaction be increased? The orange area in the diagram indicates where users have a lot of opportunity to see what is going on inside. Moreover, the people can easily access the roof garden and sit down to take a rest. It also create a place for social interaction, generating warmth in this aloof city.
2 Greening System
A park in city provide people a place to relax, playing and jogging. Moreover, it also reduces the pressure in the city with greenery. So when placing a library into this site, the building should be integrated
into the green landscape. The roof garden is easily accessible and give users a wonderful place for reading and studying under the canopy.
